Boston Facial fillers
When the face undergoes aging, volume is lost, especially in the lips and in the nasolabial folds. What can be done to restore volume in these areas? There are many types of fillers out on the market. There are “off the shelf” fillers like Restylane and Juvederm that can fill superficial lines and can be injected during an office visit with little to no down time. Fillers such as these last 4-6 months on average.
Longer lasting results can be expected with the use of your own natural tissue such as fat or injectable dermis. These fillers can be removed from one location on your body, processed, and inserted into the lips and face. Injectable dermis is a new method that shows longer lasting results and is particularly useful for lips and nasolabial folds in women having abdominoplasty, because the excised skin from the abdomen is a rich source of dermal tissue.
Dr Del Vecchio specializes in lipofilling and sees many patients in his Boston plastic surgery offices who desire more facial volume to achieve the youthful look they desire. Many times he will recommend fat grafting or dermis grafting for facial augmentation.
In Boston filler candidates who appear to be best suited for volume augmentation have realistic expectations of what can be accomplished and are in good health. Good filler candidates generally have good facial skin elasticity and do not have excessive loose skin that would best be approached with a facelift procedure. In addition, Abdominoplasty and or liposuction patients are good candidates, because they already are interested in removing some of this tissue which can be used for the filling procedure. The only way to know for sure if you are a candidate for the procedure is to come into either the Boston plastic surgery or Cape Cod plastic surgery office.
At your Boston filler consultation, Dr. Del Vecchio will seek to understand what you want to gain from the procedure. Make sure to be candid about your expectations and medical history as this will help Dr. Del Vecchio make his recommendations. Based on your discussions and his evaluation, Dr. Del Vecchio can then determine which type of facial filler would be right for you. Prior to your appointment, view the Facial Fillers Before and After Photos to see prior patients and results achieved. If you see results which compare to what you hope to achieve, bring a picture to your consultation.
Facial Fillers can be provided in the office setting using local anesthetic techniques. A small amount of anesthesia and cooling the face with iced sponges makes the “off the shelf” fillers like Restylane and Juvederm very easy to tolerate. Local anesthesia is also used for lipo filling. The results of these procedures, when properly performed, can be spectacular.
