Boston Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed by Dr. Del Vecchio in his Boston Plastic Surgery practice. In fact, Dr. Del Vecchio performs hundreds of breast augmentations a year from patients he evaluates in his Boston office. Many of his Boston breast augmentation patients often ask Dr. Del Vecchio “how do I know if I am a candidate for the breast augmentation procedure?” The answer is that if you have realistic expectations and are healthy you may be a good candidate for a breast augmentation. Patients choose to undergo the breast augmentation for a number of reasons. Whether you are seeking a consultation because your breasts are under developed, you have different size breasts, or you have seen changes in your breast size and shape due to pregnancy, the only way to find out what is right for your particular needs is to schedule a visit with Dr. Del Vecchio.
During your initial breast augmentation consultation, he will seek to understand your expectations for the procedure. After carefully listening and talking with you and comprehending what you hope to accomplish, Dr. Del Vecchio can determine if the breast augmentation results can satisfy your desires. Based on his expertise, the condition of your breasts, your skin tone, and your lifestyle, Dr. Del Vecchio will then recommend what he feels are the appropriate alternatives for you. If your breasts are sagging significantly, Dr. Del Vecchio may also suggest a breast lift in conjunction with your breast augmentation.
Prior to your visit, you should spend some time viewing his Boston Breast Augmentation photo gallery to see examples of his work and identify results you like. His photo gallery can give you an indication of the size of the implants used with some of his prior patients.
To make the most of your initial meeting with Dr Del Vecchio, be prepared to discuss the following breast augmentation topics during your consultation:
Breast Implant Type: Dr. Del Vecchio uses Mentor saline breast implants and silicone breast implants. All implant types used by Dr Del Vecchio are approved by the FDA and are available in Dr. Del Vecchio’s office. The doctor will have samples of each for you to evaluate while at your breast augmentation consultation.
Breast Implant Size: Dr. Del Vecchio believes each body type is different and one breast implant size is not right for everyone. He encourages you to bring in pictures from our Boston breast augmentation before and after gallery or from magazines depicting the breast size you hope to achieve. Based on your anatomy and body type, Dr. Del Vecchio will evaluate your options and suggest what he believes is possible.
Breast Implant Incision: Dr. Del Vecchio gives you several options for the incision location for the placement of your breast implant. The axilla, or underarm, incision leaves no visible scars on the breast and involves no dissection through breast tissue. Many breast augmentation patients who desire no breast scars choose this option. Another popular route of insertion is via the areola, which leaves a hidden scar in the junction between the pigmented skin of the areola and the lighter skin of the breast. A third route of breast augmentation incision that Dr Del Vecchio uses for his Boston breast augmentation patients is the under-wire, or infra-mammary crease incision, which is often used when silicone breast implants are desired.
Breast Augmentation Surgery Using BRAVA Pre-expansion and Microfat Grafting: Dr. Del Vecchio has also started using a new method to perform breast augmentations: using your own body fat removed during a liposuction procedure. You would be best suited for this surgery if you are primarily interested in liposuction but are looking to enhance your breast size or shape as well.
You should also come to your breast augmentation consultation prepared to discuss candidly your medical history. You may be asked about family history with breast cancer and when you had your last mammogram. He may require you to get a mammogram depending on your age and health history.
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Del Vecchio will provide you with instructions to follow for your breast augmentation. You will need to follow these guidelines closely to be better prepared for your breast augmentation and make recovery an easier process.
Routinely, breast augmentation surgery will take approximately 20 – 30 minutes to complete. Dr. Del Vecchio has privileges at several plastic surgery facilities in the Boston area. For patients wishing to have their breast augmentation in Boston, the surgery is performed at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, a Harvard teaching hospital, or at the Boston Center for Ambulatory Surgery. For breast augmentation patients coming from the North Shore and New Hampshire, North Shore Medical Center, an affiliate of Partners Healthcare, is also available.
Because of the shorter operative times needed for Dr Del Vecchio to perform the breast augmentation procedure, a shorter general anesthesia is possible. After the breast augmentation surgery, you will probably experience rapid recovery, and feel tired and sore for only twenty four to forty eight hours. Dr. Del Vecchio can provide prescription pain medication if needed. Some breast implant patients are able to return to work within a couple of days of surgery depending on the level of physical activity at your job. Make sure to discuss your recovery and back to work timeline with Dr. Del Vecchio prior to surgery. Do not hesitate to call if you do have any post-operative questions.
